In summer or winter, Samoëns is to discover…
Samoëns is a French commune, located in the department of Haute-Savoie and Rhone-Alpes region.
Protected by the Criou mountain and close to the Circus of Horseshoe, the last bastion of the limestone Alps, the Haute-Savoie village of Samoëns is located three quarters of an hour drive from Geneva.
The valley of Samoens and its nine hamlets is distinguished by the wealth of its heritage and a continuous activity throughout the year, mainly led by winter and summer tourism.
The inhabitants of Samoëns are the septimontains (or Samoënsiens – pronounced Samoinzian) perhaps in memory of the seven “mountains” or communal pastures which enjoyed the inhabitants of past centuries. The arms of the city are also seven mountains surmounted by a fir.
